The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has declared a regional state of emergency in response to rising political instability marked by recent coups and attempted mutinies across the region. The announcement followed the 55th session of the Mediation and Security Council in Nigeria, where ministers and security chiefs met to assess the growing tensions and explore ways to strengthen regional cooperation.
