The UK, Canada, and Australia have launched a joint mission to tackle rising visa scams in in Nigeria. Using the hashtag #FightingVisaFraud, their campaigns seek to warn people that criminal networks are deceiving applicants with fake job offers, “guaranteed” visas, and paid fast-track services — often resulting in visa refusals, major financial losses, long-term travel bans, and in some cases, human trafficking. The campaign intends to share guidance and warnings on social media channels. The British High Commission in Nigeria cautions that anyone involved in visa fraud in any way could face a ban of up to 10 years. Visa applicants are urged to rely only on trusted government sources — platforms such as gov.uk for the UK and Canada.ca for Canada — and to report suspected UK visa fraud to Action Fraud, the national fraud-reporting center. #DWAfrica
