Former Botswana President Ian Khama has openly criticized Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, calling her an “illegitimate president.”
Speaking about Tanzania’s recent election, Khama said:
“From what transpired during and after the elections — including the killings that took place — I, for one, do not recognize the person who was inaugurated as the President of Tanzania. She is an illegitimate president.”
He condemned leaders who cling to power through violence and electoral manipulation, stating:
“It is totally unacceptable for any African leader to kill their own people just to remain in power. To rig an election as if they are God’s chosen gift to the nation is disgraceful.”
Khama further criticized the culture of political entitlement across Africa, adding:
“When you have a country of millions, for any leader to believe they are the only one fit to be president is simply pathetic.”
